Get the Yard of Your Dreams With Kelowna Landscape Rock
- Replace Old Landscape Rock With New Material
Similar to mulch, landscape rocks eventually need to be topped up. If you notice sparse patches of rock in your garden beds, consider investing in some new material. By topping up your existing rock you’ll make each bed look brand new. Be sure to weed in and around the rocks and remove any dead plants prior to adding your new rock.
- Make Repairs to Existing Retaining Walls
Another good thing to add to your summer to-do list, is making repairs to existing retaining walls. If you have stone retaining walls in your yard it is important to check them regularly. Missing rocks can weaken the structural integrity of the wall and should be replaced as soon as possible. Besides, a perfect retaining wall will make your yard look all the better!
- Fix Uneven Stone Pathways/Patios
Lastly, if you have stone pathways or patios that you notice have become uneven, be sure to fix them before summer. Loose stones can cause tripping hazards and look messy. Investing in some sand is a great way to fix pavers that have sank or become loose over time.

Landscaping season is officially in full swing. And for those who want to lessen the cost of their materials, you’ve come to the right place. Landscape rock Kelowna can be expensive. This is why it is important to determine if you can reuse existing materials in a new place. Repurposing old landscaping materials is a great way to minimize waste and keep you on budget. However, this won’t always be possible. We outlined a few scenarios below to help you figure out when to repurpose and when to buy landscape rock Kelowna. Continue reading to learn more!
When to Reuse Landscape Rock Kelowna and When to Buy?
If your rocks are already pristine and don’t need to be moved far, reusing can be a great way to cut back on costs. Or, if you don’t mind spending the time to separate them from dirt/debris. However, you may want to consider buying new landscape rock if you have a weed problem.
One of the biggest disadvantages to resuing landscape rock is transferring weeds from one part of your yard to another. This can in turn end up costing you more time to deal with down the road. Additionally, if your rocks are mouldy, repurposing them could prove to be risky. The last thing you want is to spread mould all over your landscape.
Knowing when to buy new landscape rock Kelowna and when to reuse is important. As a homeowner, this knowledge can help save you time and money in the long run. A soft green lawn might be desirable in your front and back yards. However, having a lawn can increase your water consumption by up to 60%. Not only is this expensive but also resource intensive. But, what if we told you that there was a way to landscape your property so that it used minimal water and still looked fantastic year-round? Well, let us introduce you to xeriscaping. In this article, we will go over how you can use your gravel supplier in Kelowna to create an awesome xeriscape. Follow along below to learn more!
Use Your Gravel Supplier in Kelowna to Build a Xeriscape
Xeriscapes are a type of landscape that focuses on eliminating or reducing the need for irrigation. This means that a proper xeriscape won’t need much more water than what is provided by the natural climate. Xeriscapes often get mistaken or confused for hardscapes. However, it is important to know the difference between the two. A xeriscape has plants, rock, and soil but the main objective is to use as little water as possible. A hardscape has no plants and is mainly constructed from rocks, gravel, and other aggregates.
To build a successful xeriscape, it is best to use gravel and similar materials sparingly. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a hardscape. Gravel should be used as an accent for pathways, or around other features in your landscape. The same thing applies to other materials like river rock, landscape rock, and crusher chips.

The biggest users of gravel, generally work in construction. Contractors are constantly purchasing new gravel to create stable foundations, mix it with asphalt, fill construction sites, and create materials (like concrete and brick). It is no wonder that the construction industry is the largest consumer of gravel.
Besides construction, gravel is also used in landscaping. Gravel is becoming an increasingly popular material for those who are looking to create a xeriscape. Or, those who want an inexpensive pathway or patio. Furthermore, gravel is used for driveways and in place of bark mulch.
In addition to landscaping, gravel is also used to help with erosion control. Typically, gravel is placed into eroded waterways to prevent them from creating avalanches or mudslides. British Columbia has a history of severe erosion. However, with the help of gravel, erosion can be prevented.
Gravel is also used in farming. Most farms that you visit are bound to use gravel in some parts of their farm. Whether that’s a pathway, driveway, or in the soil. Many farmers use gravel to reduce the acidity in their soil. By limiting the acidity of the soil, plants grow better!

During the hot Kelowna summer, having a pool is a great way to keep cool. Especially on those forty-degree days. By doing some of the groundwork of building your own pool, you end up saving lots of money. And, you still get to reap the benefits of a refreshing pool. Before you begin constructing your own pool, you’ll need to source some of the necessary materials. One of the most important things you’ll need is sand. Follow along below to learn more about pool sand in Kelowna and why it is crucial when constructing a pool.
The Importance of Pool Sand in Kelowna for Your Pool.
Sand is a vital element in building a pool. This is because it ensures that your pool has a level, stable foundation. Furthermore, if you are constructing an above-ground pool, the sand will protect the liner from being torn. When choosing a type of sand, you’ll want to go with something fine. Any rocks or pebbles in the sand could cause damage over time. Because of this, you’ll want to choose a variety of sand like masonry sand (mortar sand), or concrete sand.
Next, you’ll need to determine how much sand you need. In general, a two to three-inch base of sand is sufficient. So, if you had a pool that was 15 feet by 36 feet and 7 feet deep, you’d need about 3,780 cubic feet of sand (for an above-ground pool).

Repairing pavers can easily be done with Kelowna sand for sale. This simple process can help restore life into your patio, walkway, or any other area where you have pavers. Creating a stable surface for your pavers to rest is the key to a polished look. However, over time you may find that your pavers shift or sink out of place. Oftentimes, weather or poor installation/prep can be the cause of shifting pavers. However, this can easily be repaired with a little bit of sand! Follow along below to learn more about repairing your pavers and how to maintain them.
How to Level Your Pavers With Kelowna Sand for Sale?
When building a patio or walkway with pavers it is crucial that you start with a level base. Sand is the best material for this job for a number of reasons. For instance, it holds the pavers in place, allows for proper drainage and a sound structural base. Without sand, your pavers are likely to move and shift. In turn, this can cause all sorts of problems like poor aesthetics, tripping hazards and instability. To avoid these problems in the future, it is vital that you use sand during the repair process.
To begin the repairs, you’ll need to measure and mark the area where your pavers will be reinstalled. Once this is complete, it’s time to grab a shovel and start digging. Dig around the marked area and remove about 6 inches of soil. You won’t need the extra topsoil, so find a place to put this. Next, you need to pour gravel over the bottom layer of the area you just dug and tamp the gravel down. This can be done with a machine or hand tamper.
After this step, you might find it useful to add a layer of landscape fabric over the gravel. This would be to prevent weeds from growing and also to separate the layer of gravel from the layer of sand. Penultimately, you will pour a layer of sand over the top of the fabric (or gravel) and grade it until it is level and/or until it slopes away from any structures. Finally, you can lay your pavers down into the sand by pressing them in and filling the gaps with additional sand.
