2022 is coming to an end and Kelowna Sand and Gravel is brining you a rewind on the year’s content! With only one more month to go, we are rapidly approaching the new year! In lieu of this, we thought it would be fitting to write a year-end recap of all of the blog content we’ve written over the last year. This way, you can catch up on any missed content. To begin our content for the year, our January article focused on all of the ways that you can get a top-quality lawn with a little bit of sand. In the following month, we wrote about retaining walls and all of the reasons you might want to invest in one. In March and April, we discussed the uses of sand and gravel to mitigate flooding, help with drainage, and reduce the risk of erosion. These articles were both done following the natural disasters happening in B.C. at the time.
As the weather got warmer in May, we focused our writing on the uses of gravel in your yard. By June, we talked about the ways you can build a retaining wall with rock at our quarry! Moreover, in July, we went over how to prepare for a rock delivery. For the month of August, we discussed the ways that you can solve drainage issues with gravel.
We kicked off fall with an article written in September about the many uses of sand. In addition, our October blog post was centred around paver repair with sand. Finally, in November we wrote about the sand you need in order to build a pool.

Before you begin constructing your own pool, you’ll need to source some of the necessary materials. One of the most important things you’ll need is sand. The Importance of Pool Sand in Kelowna for Your Pool.
Sand is a vital element in building a pool. This is because it ensures that your pool has a level, stable foundation. Furthermore, if you are constructing an above-ground pool, the sand will protect the liner from being torn. When choosing a type of sand, you’ll want to go with something fine. Any rocks or pebbles in the sand could cause damage over time. Because of this, you’ll want to choose a variety of sand like masonry sand (mortar sand), or concrete sand.
Next, you’ll need to determine how much sand you need. In general, a two to three-inch base of sand is sufficient. So, if you had a pool that was 15 feet by 36 feet and 7 feet deep, you’d need about 3,780 cubic feet of sand (for an above-ground pool).
